Our class is looking for donations of newspaper so that we may line our compost bin in the class.
Thanks!

Dreambox (Math Game) and our Week
Dreambox
All students in grade k-3 (primary) have access to the math game, Dreambox. Students can access their account by going through the student portal on the OCSB website. Their login information is the same as it is for their google accounts. Students can access their Dreambox account at any time.
Math
We continue to work on using a variety of strategies for subtraction such as open number lines. Again, estimation is being revisited to check for a reasonable answer. In patterning, we are learning about pattern rules.
Scientists in School
The students enjoyed a great morning and learned a lot about classifying soil. Thank-you to all of our parent volunteers!

Scientists in School, Student Activity Fees and Our week
Scientists in School will be coming into our class on Friday, October 20th for the entire morning. Students will be learning all about soil. We are looking for 5 parent volunteers to help run the stations. Please sign the form that came home if you are able to volunteer for the workshop.
A friendly reminder to pay the student activity fees. Not only do the fees cover the agenda costs, but they also cover guest speakers, workshops, and field trips.
Language
We will begin our second writing assignment next week. Students will be describing and comparing two seasons in Ontario. This will be a good opportunity to build vocabulary as well as work on using transition words as we compare seasons. Students will be setting their goals to improve their writing prior to beginning their task.
Today we read a story and took time to infer the character traits of the main character while working in groups. Students are beginning to use information and details from the text to support their ideas and answers.
Math
Patterning! We are working on identifying patterning rules in growing and shrinking numeric patterns.
Sample question:
----, ------, 78, 72, 66, -------, ----
What is the pattern rule. What are the missing terms?
We also worked on using open number lines to solve subtraction problems with regrouping. Homework will include both addition and subtraction with regrouping so students may develop these necessary skills.
Feedback and Multiple Drafts
In writing and art, students are encouraged to create multiple drafts and receive feedback in order to improve their work. We discussed this video and the importance of feedback this week.

Change in Bus Times for Baxter Field Trip
The buses will be leaving Baxter earlier than stated in the letter that went home. Students will be leaving Baxter at 2pm.
As well, we are still missing some permission slips and health forms. Students are not permitted on field trips without these forms filled out. Please let us know if you need additional copies. They must be returned immediately.
The students have completed their first EQAO paragraph and I have marked it. Students will be bringing it home for you to review. It must be returned to school.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
